The internet can go off. The exam carries on.

Examboard runs exams on a server inside each exam centre. Candidates write on a phone, tablet or laptop over a closed local network. No internet is needed, and every answer is saved the moment it's chosen.

Built for WASSCE, BECE and similar exams.Runs in the browser today · Android and iOS apps on the way.

Demo of a candidate's exam screen: answers save to the exam centre server while the internet goes off, time runs out, and attempts are then sent encrypted for marking.

01The problem

Computer-based exams keep failing for the same three reasons.

The network lets candidates down

Most online exam tools need steady internet. When it drops, candidates lose time, lose answers, and sometimes lose the whole paper.

Malpractice is hard to stop

Leaked questions, shared answers and impersonation weaken results that honest students worked hard for.

Results take months

Scripts are marked by hand after the exam. Results arrive months later, and human mistakes slip in.

02Before the exam

Everything happens inside the exam centre. No internet needed on exam day.

1

Each exam centre gets its own server

It runs a private Wi-Fi network just for the exam. Papers are loaded onto it before the exam starts.

2

Candidates join on any device

Phone, tablet or laptop. They turn on airplane mode, join the centre's network and sign in with their exam slip.

3

Results come fast

Every answer is already saved, even if time runs out. After the exam, attempts are sent encrypted to our cloud for marking and AI marking.

How everyone is connected

Candidates' devices connect only to the centre server through the closed exam Wi-Fi. Every answer is saved there. Any attempt to reach the internet is blocked and flagged to the invigilator.

03During the exam

Malpractice gets flagged, even on students' own phones.

Every exam centre works as a closed bubble. Invigilators see what's happening on a dashboard that runs without internet.

Airplane mode stays onMobile data must be off before the exam starts. Turning it back on is flagged.

04After the exam

Results in hours, not months.

The exam centre server has a second connection, separate from the one candidates use. After the exam, it sends every attempt, encrypted, to the Examboard cloud for marking.

Works without internet

Exams run on the exam centre's own server and network. If the internet goes off, nobody in the hall notices.

Handles a full exam centre

Hundreds of candidates can sit the same paper at the same time without slowing down.

Passage questions, like WASSCE

One preamble with parts (a), (b) and (c). Candidates read once and answer several questions in one go.

Saved the moment they answer

Every answer is kept on the centre's server as it's chosen. If time runs out before they submit, nothing is lost.

AI marking for written answers

Theory answers are marked in minutes, not weeks. Teachers review the marks and always have the final say.

Built to stop malpractice

A closed network, airplane mode checks and live flags for invigilators.

Phone, tablet or laptop

Candidates can write on whatever device the centre or the student has.

08Questions

Common questions

See all questions
Do we need internet to run an exam?

No. Each exam centre has its own server and closed network. After the exam, the server sends encrypted attempts for marking. If there's no internet, attempts can be carried on a pen drive and uploaded later.

How soon do results come out?

As soon as the attempts reach our cloud. Objective questions are marked automatically and written answers are marked with AI, with teachers able to review. No more waiting months.

What if a device switches off, or time runs out?

Every answer is saved the moment it's chosen. Candidates can sign in again on any device and carry on. If time runs out before they press submit, everything they answered is kept.

Does AI decide the final marks?

No. AI suggests marks for written answers so teachers start with a draft. Teachers can change any mark before results are released.

Can candidates use their own phones?

Yes. They turn on airplane mode and join the exam centre's network, which blocks the internet. Turning airplane mode off, leaving the exam page or leaving the centre is flagged to the invigilator.
